America's Finest City Half Marathon and 5K

Nearly 10,000 ambitious runners hit San Diego streets Sunday morning for the 37th annual America's Finest City half-marathon and 5K.

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Nearly 10,000 ambitious runners hit San Diego streets Sunday morning for the 37th annual America's Finest City half-marathon and 5K.

The 13.1 mile race began at 7 a.m. at Cabrillo National Monument at the tip of Point Loma. The course wrapped around the embarcadero and downtown before the final stretch in Balboa Park.

We were at the finish line as the runners completed this enormous accomplishment.

"It feels really good. It was really warm out there but you just put one foot in front of the other and keep on going," Phoenix resident, Daniel Galaz said.

"If you want to do it just get out there and do it. I used to be over 200 pounds and I lost 70 pounds running. If I can do it anyone can do it," local resident, Jessica Lasak said

The 5K course was at Balboa Park.

Entry fees will benefit the Cabrillo National Park Foundation and Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.
