Authorities said autopsies are scheduled Sunday on two people who died in the crash of a home-built, open-cockpit airplane that crashed in Barona Mesa while the pilot was doing aerobatics.
A wing reportedly came off the plane about 2:35 p.m. Saturday, Ian Gregor of the Federal Aviation Administration said.
The names of the pilot and the passenger were withheld.
The locally based plane is registered to a Ramona resident, Gregor said. The plane, a Bakeng Deuce, seats two people and has an open cockpit, he said.
A Web site sells and ships a kit of the plane.
The plane crashed near 25167 Mesa Estates Road, a sparsely populated area, Roxanne Provaznik of CalFire said. The crash did not start a fire.
Accident investigators will visit the crash site Sunday, Gregor said.
