A suspicious device, outside a Sorrento Mesa business park, has turned out to be a harmless, cylindrical mail package.

The object was found in the 6400 block of Nancy Ridge Drive just after 5 p.m.  The Metro Arson Strike Team, San Diego Police and the Bomb Squad were called to the scene.   A robot was used to inspect the object before a team of personnel was sent in for further inspection around 9 p.m.

Emergency crews evacuated several businesses in the area.  Early reports were that the device was found outside La Jolla Pharmaceuticals, but it was actually closer to Arena Pharmaceuticals.  Police say the company was on heightened alert and made the initial call to police about the object.  According to published reports, Arena Pharmaceuticals laid off 130 workers on Thursday.
