A Vista man responsible for killing a police dog at the end of a chase is sentenced to nearly four years in prison.
During sentencing Wednesday, Cory Byron admitted he was drunk and off his medication for bipolar disorder on New Year's Eve of 2007.
He says when he led police on a chase, he wanted to kill himself and didn't realize the dog fell with him as he jumped off Coronado bridge.
Byron's sister tearfully thanked Officer Kedrick Sadler and his canine partner Stryker.
"I do believe Kedrick saved Cory's life. And Stryker saved Cory's life by breaking the water. I just wanna say thank you to Kedrick," said Jennifer Byron.
Byron could get out by the end of the year with credit for time already served.
