SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A water main ruptured in Normal Heights early Tuesday, leaving homes and businesses without running water and prompting authorities to shut down a nearby freeway on ramp while crews made repairs.

As of 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, customers with even number addresses in the 4600 block of 32nd Street and odd number addresses in the 4600 block of Iowa Street were without water service. A water wagon was onsite for customers to obtain water during the outage.

About 24 customers, some of which include apartment buildings in the area, were affected by the outage. Water service is expected to be restored and repairs finished early Tuesday afternoon. The 6-inch diameter concrete water main that broke was installed in 1968.

The onramp from Madison Avenue to northbound Interstate 805 was closed as crews worked to repair the break, but was reopened shortly after 2:30 p.m., according to CHP.
