Broken water main floods streets in Encanto

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A ruptured water line caused flooding in an Encanto-area neighborhood Thursday.

A grading crew accidentally severed the 12-inch concrete water main at 69th Street and Akins Avenue about 9:30 a.m., according to police and the San Diego Water Department.

It took city personnel about an hour to halt the flow, which inundated traffic lanes but caused no structural damage, SDWD spokesman Arian Collins said.

The accident interrupted water service to the 6800 block of Broadway, the 900 block of 69th Street and the 7000 block of Akins Avenue.

It was unclear how long repairs would take, Collins said.
