RANCHO SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A grass fire scorched 12 acres near Rancho San Diego Friday and prompted the closure of state Route 94 from Otay Mesa Road to Honey Springs Road.
The blaze broke out about 4:30 p.m. in the 15000 block of Otay Lakes Road near state Route 94 and was contained at 5:26 p.m., according to Cal Fire Battalion Chief Nick Schuler.
The fire spread slowly and did not damage any surrounding structures, Schuler said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The closed stretch of state Route 94 was reopened once the fire was out, according to the California Highway Patrol.

JAMUL (CBS 8) - CAL FIRE was on the scene Friday of a 20 to 30-acre grass fire at Highway 94 and Otay Lakes Rd. The spread was slow and the were no structures threatened.
The brush fire started around 4:30 p.m. and threatened SDG&E transmission lines. The cause is under investigation.
