The search is on in Carlsbad for suspected gang members involved in a shooting in front of a hotel Saturday.

At about 12:45 a.m. Saturday, Carlsbad police officers responded to reports of shots fired at the Marriott Residence Inn at 2000 Farady Ave., said Carlsbad police Lt. Matt Magro.

Officers arrived on the scene and found a large group of people running and driving away from the hotel, Magro said.

Witnesses told investigators that there was a fight in front of the hotel, and that one of the men involved in the fight pulled out a handgun and then fired it into the front of the hotel, Magro said.

Although persons fled, no one was hurt and it was not immediately known if the hotel was damaged, he said.

Investigators believe the fight might have involved documented Oceanside gang members and suspected gang members visiting from Long Beach, Magro said.

No arrests have been made.
