SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - On Tuesday, Cal-Trans and CHP paid tribute to highway workers who have lost their lives in the the line of duty.

A total of 183 cones were set up at the Cal-Trans District Office in Old Town as part of the annual memorial ceremony.

Each cone represented a worker who died along a California Highway since 1921. Eighteen of those cones were for those who died in San Diego and Imperial Counties.

Cal-Trans urged drivers to be alert and to slow down for work-zones.
