SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Two suspected drunken drivers were in custody Thursday following unrelated pursuits that took place within minutes of each other on San Diego County freeways, authorities said.

The first pursuit began near where Interstate 805 and Interstate 15 split at 7:21 p.m. Wednesday, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Ray Scheidnes. It ended at 7:35 p.m. on southbound state Route 163, just south of Genesee Avenue after the suspect crashed into freeway shoulders and got a flat tire, he said.

At 7:38 p.m. Wednesday, the second pursuit began on northbound Interstate 5, near state Route 54 and ended on southbound state Route 163, south of Interstate 8, Scheidnes said, adding that officers used a spike strip to flatten the second motorist's tires.
