Chula Vista High School fire under investigation

A small fire caused minor damage at Chula Vista High School Thursday, and investigators were working to determine if it was intentionally set, a fire official said.

CHULA VISTA (CNS) - A small fire caused minor damage at Chula Vista High School Thursday, and investigators were working to determine if it was intentionally set, a fire official said.

Fire crews were called to the campus at 820 Fourth Ave. shortly before 7 a.m., and the fire in an office area near the cafeteria had burned itself out before firefighters arrived, Chula Vista Deputy Fire Chief Jim Garcia said.

Garcia said it appeared someone broke a window near the cafeteria Thursday morning and vandalized the school. It was unclear what time the vandalism took place, but it appeared to be related to the fire, he said.

Investigators were working to determine if the fire was accidental or incendiary in nature, Garcia said.

Chula Vista police were investigating the vandalism, Garcia said.
