CHULA VISTA (CBS 8) - A Chula Vista strip club that's been giving the city headaches for months is at the center of controversy again.

Parents are complaining about its sign, which sits near a popular field trip destination.

The strip club is called EyeCandy, but parents say there's nothing sweet about the strip club's sign.

EyeCandy is located right across the street from the Living Coast Discovery Center's parking lot, which is regularly filled with school-aged kids on field trips.

EyeCandy's own attorney agrees, saying the strip club was trying to be funny, but it's more important to be a good neighbor.

"That was inappropriate - so if there's any problem, that should be fixed," attorney Roger Diamond said.

EyeCandy has had a sour relationship with the city and many Chula Vista residents since it opened on Bay Boulevard late last year.

An attorney hired by the city recently sent a notice to EyeCandy citing a zoning code violation of improper location for being within 500 feet of residentially zoned territory.

The notice tells EyeCandy it must cease all operations by June 7th, 2013, adate the strip club does not plan to honor.

"It's zoned correctly and it's more than 500 feet away from sensitive uses such as churches, schools, parks and residences," Diamond said.

EyeCandy's attorney says his client is willing to talk to the city about moving, but that the city must sign a document agreeing that the new location won't lead to similar problems later on.

"We want to know in advance, from the city, where we can operate legally without being hassled and the city so far, has refused to do that," Diamond said.

Chula Vista's city attorney says he's given EyeCandy a list of several qualified sites, and that the business snuck in here under false pretenses. He also points out that the sign creating the latest controversy isn't permitted, so it shouldn't even be here.

EyeCandy was also cited for several other code violations, including not having the proper "no touching" signs. The club's attorney says it is working to correct those violations.
