OCEANSIDE, Calif. (AP) — The San Diego County medical examiner's office says the death of a Camp Pendleton-based Marine over the weekend was accidental.

The medical examiner's office said Tuesday that the death is being listed as an accident, but there were no further details.

A statement from the 1st Marine Division said Sgt. Nicholas J. Smith was found unresponsive at about noon Sunday at his Oceanside home. He was pronounced dead about an hour later.

Smith, a warehouse clerk from Chicago, was assigned to the Headquarters Battery, 1st Battalion, 11th Marine Regiment. He joined the Marine Corps in July 2002 and was a veteran of the Iraq war.

Oceanside police Sgt. Jeff Brandt said there was no indication of any kind of violence that led to Smith's death.
