CHULA VISTA (CNS) - A county Probation Department office that opened Monday in Chula Vista will make things easier for juvenile offenders who used to have to drive to Kearny Mesa.

The new office at 1095 Bay Blvd. is bigger than the old one in National City that only served adults.

About 1,200 South Bay juveniles supervised by the department can now see their probation officers at the new location instead of making the long trek to the juvenile probation office in Kearny Mesa.

County officials hope the closer location will give the youngsters easier access to local services and treatment opportunities, leading to greater accountability and a better chance of success.

The officers, in turn, will have easier access to their juvenile clients.

Probation officers also supervise about 3,300 adults in the South Bay.
