PACIFIC BEACH (CNS) - A pot-bellied, Spanish-speaking man who posed as a maintenance worker and assaulted a woman in her Pacific Beach apartment was responsible for a similar attack in Golden Hill, San Diego police said Saturday.

The Golden Hill attack occurred May 13, and the same man is suspected in Thursday's groping in Pacific Beach, San Diego police Detective Rudy Tai said. Both women fought off the man.

In both cases, the suspect said he was a maintenance worker and needed to do work in their bathrooms, Tai said, adding that he then asked the women to remove items from under the sink.

In Golden Hill, the man groped the woman when she bent over, grabbing her breasts, Tai said.

In Pacific Beach, the woman was suspicious of the man who told her he needed to check the water pressure in her sink. Tai said. A struggle broke out in the bathroom, and the man punched her in the face and ran, he said.

The suspect was described as Hispanic, in his late 20s or early 30s, about 5 feet 8 inches with a "beer belly." The suspect speaks Spanish and English. Police urged anyone with more information about the crimes to call them at (619) 531-2210 or Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
