San Diego police are investigating a homicide in the Midway District

Police say they received a call around 6:15 p.m. Wednesday regarding reports of shots fired in the area of Kemper Street and Kenyon Street.

SAN DIEGO — San Diego police are investigating a homicide in the Midway District near Point Loma Heights.

Police say they received a call around 6:15 p.m. Wednesday regarding reports of shots fired in the area of Kemper Street and Kenyon Street. A car crash was also reported in that same area. 

"When the officers and paramedics arrived on scene, they found a grey Acura had collided with a retaining wall in the access road behind the businesses," said Lieutenant Matt Dobbs with the San Diego Police Department. "They located a male behind the wheel who was unresponsive. When then man was removed from the vehicle, they discovered he had sustained at least one apparent gunshot wound."

The male victim was taken to hospital, but later died. 

"We do believe there was another male with the victim at the time of the collision," said Dobbs. "He was last seen walking away from the vehicle after the collision. The victim has not been identified at this time but is described as a possible Hispanic male between 18 and 25 years old."
