Victim of fatal shooting in St. Paul Payne-Phalen neighborhood identified

Police say the man was shot and killed late Saturday night.

ST PAUL, Minn. — Police say a man was shot and killed late Saturday night in the Payne-Phalen neighborhood of St. Paul.

According to a post on Twitter by the St. Paul Police Department on Monday, the victim was 32-year-old Rashaad L. Van Pelt.

Police say officers responded to 911 calls around 11:30 p.m. in the 1000 block of York Avenue on Saturday night.

When officers got there, they found Van Pelt, who had been shot outside an apartment building. After attempting life-saving measures, Van Pelt died from his injuries.

SPPD said on Monday that no arrests have been made yet. 

Investigators do not believe the shooting was random.

This is the 34th homicide of the year in St. Paul.
