Despite circumstances initially deemed suspicious, investigators announced today that the death of a man whose decomposed body turned up behind a Midway-area business over the weekend was not a homicide.
A pedestrian found the 43-year-old man, whose name has been withheld pending notification of his relatives, in the 2200 block of Hancock Street about 7:30 p.m. Sunday, according to San Diego police.
Though the body bore no "visual signs of trauma," detectives initially considered the "scene and the condition of the body" suspicious, said SDPD Lt. Terry McManus. He declined to elaborate.
An autopsy conducted Monday ruled out homicide, though a conclusive cause-of-death finding is on hold pending further investigation, McManus said.
When found, the body was in an "advanced state of decomposition," according to a report from the county Medical Examiner's Office.
