SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A dog got stuck in the mud in a river bed in Ocean Beach Wednesday and needed help getting out.
Joey Riley was walking with her dog east of Dog Beach near the San Diego River Channel when it got stuck in several feet of mud. She says the 13-year-old German wirehaired named Rita has arthritic hips, and couldn't free herself.
"The dog unfortunately got stuck and was up to her neck, and it was terrifying to say the least," she said.
A lifeguard was able to get Rita onto a surfboard and bring her back to the shallow area, where she was reunited with her owner.
