Employee shot at San Marcos movie theater

A movie theater employee was injured after being grazed by a bullet that was fired in the parking lot of a North County theater Friday night.

SAN MARCOS (CBS 8) - A movie theater employee was injured after being grazed by a bullet that was fired in the parking lot of a North County theater Friday night.

The shooting happened at the San Marcos Stadium 18 Cinemas along West San Marcos Drive around 9:20p.m., said San Diego sheriff's Lt. Scott Amos.

The Sheriff's Department rushed to the scene with a big response. The Sheriff's helicopter was also overhead as deputies swarmed the theaters. Investigators quickly discovered that the bullet had come from outside the building, not inside one of the many packed theaters.

Authorities decided not to evacuate the theaters, but isolated the crime scene while they looked for witnesses and canvassed the area for suspects.

Between one and four shots were reportedly fired from the parking lot, shattering the glass in the theater's front lobby doors and leaving a gaping bullet hole.

One bullet ended up going through one of the glass, striking an employee's arm. She was taken to Palomar Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

It did not appear the victim or the theater were targeted, Amos said.

The theater continued to sell tickets and many patrons did not seem fazed by the incident. Deputies surrounded the area but had broken down their perimeter an hour after the shooting, Amos said.

"It's business as usual except in the area where we need to be in," said Lt. Mike Musey with San Diego Sheriff's Dept. "We've blocked off a certain area but other than that it's business as usual for the theater."

So far, no arrests have been made and no suspects identified.
