The family of a woman killed when her vehicle was struck by another vehicle on Highway 67 is telling the driver of the car that hit her to come forward.

Chula Vista resident Alexandria Drake, 25, was fatally injured in a multi-vehicle crash on Highway 67 near Quail Rock, just east of Archie Moore Road, around 11:15 a.m. Sunday, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office.

She died at Palomar Medical Center at 3:57 p.m. Sunday, the Medical Examiner's Office reported.

Drake's 4-week-old infant was in the vehicle at the time of the crash but was not hurt, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Moments before the crash, Drake was following her mother's vehicle when the driver of one of two other vehicles speeding in the opposite direction lost control and went into Drake's lane, the Medical Examiner's Office reported.

Both Drake's and her mother's vehicle were struck but only Drake's overturned and struck a tree, according to the Medical Examiner's Office.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Melvin Pearless, 47, was racing a white BMW when he crossed into oncoming traffic, striking Drake's car, which ended up wrapped around a tree.

One other adult was critically injured in the crash and a third suffered less severe injures, according to the CHP.

The CHP tells News 8 there will be a news conference Tuesday to announce $265,000 in grants to improve Hwy 67.
