SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A woman was hit killed by a car near SeaWorld and East Mission Bay Drive Tuesday night.

The woman was pushing a shopping cart around 8:10 p.m. when she was thrown in the air by a red Honda Civic. The impact shattered the sedan driver's windshield.

The woman was transported with a severe head injury to UCSD Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.

The driver of the Civic stopped and remained at the scene. Witnesses also stopped and gave statements to police. Police said all parties were accounted for, and they do not believe alcohol or drugs were a factor.

Investigators said it is unclear how the tragedy happened.

As of this report, the woman has not been identified.

Police are continuing their investigation and kept SeaWorld Drive blocked for a couple of hours Tuesday night.
