Fire destroys auto repair shop in Little Italy

An electrical fire at an auto repair shop in Little Italy early Friday caused about $200,000 in damage, but no one was injured.

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - An electrical fire at an auto repair shop in Little Italy early Friday caused about $200,000 in damage, but no one was injured.

The fire at Honest's Auto Repair on Kalmia Street near Kettner Boulevard was reported shortly before 4 a.m., according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department. Firefighters knocked it down about 15 minutes after cutting through security bars at the front of the business.

SDFRD spokesman Lee Swanson said crews kept the fire from spreading to areas other then an office area and the loft directly above it. Two cars in the garage were not damaged.

The fire caused about $100,000 in damage to the building and another $100,000 in damage to its contents, Swanson said.
