SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A family of four was without a home Sunday after it was destroyed in a large blaze Saturday night in a rural part of East County.

The fire was reported in the 6400 block of Dehesa Road, about seven miles east of El Cajon, about 7:30 p.m., Cal Fire Captain Nick Schuler said.

When crews arrived the home and garage were fully engulfed. It took 40 firefighters about 90 minutes to extinguish the flames, Schuler said.

None of the residents, a husband, wife and their two children, were home

during the fire and none of the firefighters were injured fighting the blaze.

The structure and property damage was substantial enough to call the destruction a total loss. The estimated damage of the fire -- which claimed the home, garage and three cars including a classic Cadillac -- was unknown, Schuler said.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
