SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - The grass may be brown, but one day, it may need mowing and so hundreds of San Diegans were up early Saturday morning to cash in on a deal that also helps the environment.

The 16th annual Mowing Down Pollution lawn mower trade-in program was held Saturday at Qualcomm Stadium. The first 650 residents with a qualifying gasoline mower were able to trade it in for a new electric mower, for a small fee.

The electric model originally retails for $400.00, but residents who traded their gas-powered engine only paid $99.00.
