With California's Great America announcing it plans to reopen, there may be more theme parks thinking of doing the same.

California adds mass vaccination sites despite short supply

California is adding more mass vaccination clinics even though short supplies have forced it to ration doses. 

Santa Clara County and the San Francisco 49ers will open the state's largest vaccination site next week at Levi's Stadium. It will be able to handle 15,000 shots a day. But Los Angeles County says it will limit new COVID-19 vaccinations to ensure second doses are available for those awaiting them. 

Meanwhile, the state’s worst coronavirus surge continues to abate. The state is seeing about 14,500 new cases daily — down by nearly half from two weeks ago.

State releases latest COVID-19 statistics 

On Friday, the state of California announced a state total of 3,308,468 confirmed cases of COVID-19. There were also 558 deaths reported bring the total up to 43,024 deaths. The state also reported 3,984,752 vaccine doses had been administered of the 6,438,225 doses in California.

Legislation introduced to reopen all California theme parks under the 'orange tier'

With California's Great America announcing its plans to reopen on May 22, 2021, there may be more theme parks thinking of doing the same.

Assemblymember Sharon Quirk-Silva (D-Fullerton) and Assemblymember Martinez Valladares (R-Santa Clarita) introduced legislation to safely reopen theme parks in California if they fall under the orange tier in the state's reopening plan. According to Quirk-Silva, the bill would target industries in the hospitality and leisure sector, as "responsible and safe tourism can be used as a pathway to recovery."

Yolo County announces restaurant fee waiver for struggling businesses

Yolo County is launching a restaurant fee waiver program to help local businesses impacted by the coronavirus. 

Restaurants, bars, restaurant/bar combinations and bakeries can receive a waiver when renewing their yearly permit fees with Yolo County. Businesses that have already paid their permit fee renewals between July 1, 2020 and January 31, 2021 can also get a refund through the program.  

San Joaquin to begin notifying residents when vaccines become available

Residents of San Joaquin County who want to receive the COVID-19 vaccine can submit their contact information through an online portal to be notified with their tier is open. 

California town paying people to visit

From now until March 31, if you visit Santa Maria, you can get $100. 

While there is a travel advisory in place in California — the state recommends no nonessential travel of 120 miles from your home — the city is offering travelers a $100 gift card to spend on local amenities if they book a two-night trip in the Santa Maria Valley. 

Great America in Santa Clara announces reopening date for 2021

California’s Great America’s opening day has been announced as May 22, 2021. The park's announcement is believed to be the first reopening date for an amusement park in California since many shut down in 2020. 

"We look forward to welcoming you back to a fun and safe environment," the park's website says, adding it plans to open safely, with "enhanced health and safety measures."
