Hot temperatures mean huge beach crowds

The heat wave and hot temperatures mean the beaches are packed.

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - The heat wave and hot temperatures mean the beaches are packed.

Thousands of people fled the heat by heading to the shore on Saturday.

Mission Beach was wall-to-wall with people by noon.

Needless to say lifeguards were busy.

The rip currents were moderate Saturday and that meant constantly moving people out of harm's way.

"Come to the beach with patience.  Come with water, sunscreen and something to provide yourself with shade, but take a little extra time because you're going to need to find a place to park." San Diego Lifeguard, Lt. James Gartland said.

Lifeguards did make a rescue in Ocean Beach, after a swimmer got into trouble in an unguarded area.

He was taken to the hospital, but is expected to be okay.
