(SAN DIEGO) - Life gets stressful and rarely goes according to plan, but that doesn't mean you have to fall apart!
Julie Potiker, mindfulness expert and author of 'Life Falls Apart But You Don't Have To', offers her tips and tools that you too can use when life gets a little hairy.
For example, when Julie feels a wave of sadness, she does something to make a movement of awe, or "pops a moment” of happiness. She suggests collecting these moments and memories so they can be used used for future use.
“When you have a positive mental state, you are wiring a new neural connection so you need to remember a moment, like the colors of as sunset, and let it land for a few moments. Negativity sticks like Velcro but positivity is like Teflon, which is why you remember the one negative thing someone tells you, but forget the three positive ones.”
Other methods that Julie uses include:
- Keeping a gratitude journal
- Daily meditation
- Use a 'here and now' stone
- Savor a positive feeling and focus on joy
