L.A. County Sheriff says 16-year-old Saugus High shooting suspect has died

The 16-year-old shot six people, killing a 14-year-old boy and 15-year-old girl.

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. — The 16-year-old boy who carried out Thursday's shooting at Saugus
High School in Santa Clarita has died, according to the L.A. County Sheriff's Department. He died at a hospital at 3:32 p.m. on Friday with his mother present.

On Thursday, the suspect walked into the campus quad, pulled a .45 caliber semiautomatic pistol from his backpack and shot five classmates, two fatally, then shot himself. It was his 16th birthday.

Friday afternoon, the L.A. County Sheriff also released the names of two shooting victims that died. 

Initially, L.A. County Sheriff Alex Villanueva said the family of one of the victim's, 15-year-old Grace Muehlberger, agreed to release her identity publicly on Friday morning. The 14-year-old boy who died was later identified as Dominic Blackwell.

The other victims are recovering and expected to survive. Their identities have not been made public. 

On Friday, Marsha McLean, Mayor of Santa Clarita, announced that the city will host "a healing gathering" and candlelight vigil on Sunday at 7 p.m. at Central Park. She asks that people do not bring their own candle, as blue and white candles will be provided at the event.
