1 dead after car goes off Interstate 5 near Balboa, Garnet avenues in Pacific Beach

SAN DIEGO — One person was killed Tuesday after an SUV crashed in Pacific Beach, according to police. San Diego police and emergency personnel responded to the scene of the single-vehicle crash in which the SUV came off an Interstate 5 bridge, overturned and came to rest on its roof on Garnet Avenue.

The northbound Toyota RAV4 veered out of control for unknown reasons and went over a guardrail on the eastern side of the freeway about 1:45 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

The vehicle plunged onto the roadway in the 3000 block of Garnet Avenue, coming to rest on its roof, the CHP reported.

The victim, who was not immediately identified, died at the scene.
