Young father and former Army soldier identified as 1 of 2 people killed in wrong-way crash in Chula Vista

The family of David Ramirez, 23, is demanding answers in their beloved son and brother's untimely death.

CHULA VISTA, Calif. — One of the two people killed Saturday in a crash involving a wrong-way driver on Interstate 5 in Chula Vista has been identified by family members as 23-year-old David Ramirez.

According to David's father, Leopoldo Ramirez, and brother, Sergio Ramirez, David was driving home after working the night shift at Five Guys when his Ford Focus was struck by the wrong-way driver.

David's family said he was a loving and dedicated son, brother, and father of a 3-month-old baby girl named, Vhictoria. David had been a soldier in the Army and was studying criminal justice.

His family said they are still trying to get answers to their devastating loss. The other person killed has not been identified and the Ramirez family said they do not if the other person killed was the wrong-way driver. 

A candlelight vigil for David is being planned for Tuesday at 5:30 p.m., near the Imperial Beach Pier - by the pull-up bars where he liked to work out. A service is also planned for him on Thursday beginning at 4 p.m. at . 640 Tenth St. in Imperial Beach.

A GoFundMe page has also been set up to help David Ramirez's family.
