SAN DIEGO —
Over 60 veterans returned home from the trip of a lifetime on Sunday. The group was part of Honor Flight San Diego’s fall Tour of Honor and spent the weekend visiting memorials and tributes to their service and sacrifice.
Around 1,000 people lined up at San Diego International Airport to welcome the veterans home. They held signs and cheered as the veterans arrived.

In total, 62 men and two women from World War II and the Korean War took part in this year’s Honor Flight. The tours usually include 80 veterans but the organization had funding limitations and said they had over 100 on their waiting lists.
According to organizers, the veterans who took the fall tour included a WWII vet who was a German prisoner of war, a female veteran who was a cryptologist deciphering code in the Korea War and two friends who lost their military brother in Vietnam and went to visit the Vietnam Wall for the first time to see his name.
