SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Take a cup of blended coffee, add a healthy dash of organized chaos, and you've got a typical day at Java Mama.
"Java Mama is a kid-friendly café where parents or caregivers can come relax, have some coffee. We have some good food. We have a whole kid's menu and the kids can play," Virginia Nigro said.
"Our main area is supervised from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. So we have a person in there that's making sure the kids are checked in and checked out.
"The parents are still responsible, but you can relax a little bit knowing that there's someone looking after the child, knowing that the child is in a secure area. So it's a nice place for the parents and a great place for the kids," Virginia said.
For Java papas and Java mamas, it's a brief respite from the routine.
"Oh it's wonderful to have a break from being shut inside and the beautiful weather. You can play outside with your children and talk to other mothers that are going through the same thing," a parent said.
"They can be in there with the children or they can hang out at the bar or a table, and if their child needs attention, the supervisor will call their name," Virginia said.
"It's nice to have an adult conversation," a parent said.
"We have different classes such as baby sign language, Spanish, music classes, massage," Virginia said.
In this organized chaos of Java Mama, there's a sense of calm like being in the eye of a hurricane, and a feeling of camaraderie like we're all in this together. Let's just have a good time.
