Man suspected of sexually assaulting 70-year-old woman at assisted living center in Carlsbad arrested

Authorities identified the suspect as 25-year-old Austin Miller.

CARLSBAD, Calif. — A man suspected of sexually assaulting a 70-year-old woman at an assisted living center in Carlsbad has been arrested, according to Carlsbad police.

Authorities identified the suspect as 25-year-old Austin Miller.

Miller was arrested for elder abuse, burglary, attempted rape, sexual battery and false imprisonment.

On Tuesday, staff at the facility reported that a white male had entered the building and entered the room of the 70-year-old victim.

According to Carlsbad police, once inside the room, Miller allegedly sexually assaulted the victim. A staff member confronted him before he fled the building.

Officers searched the area with a service dog and assistance from a sheriff's helicopter crew but were unable to immediately locate the suspect.

On Wednesday morning, officers located Miller at a Carlsbad Village Drive location. He was booked into the Vista Detention Facility.
