New book discusses being a parent to your aging parent

Many parents are apart of the “sandwich generation,” caring for children and aging parents at the same time.

SAN DIEGO — It's a difficult, yet common part of life - being a parent to your aging parent. When you become an empty nester, you think you're finally done taking care of people, then suddenly, your mom or dad needs some extra help.

Dr. Ken Druck of Del Mar has a new book available on Wednesday called "Raising an Aging Parent."

He has some tips:

1). Bite your tongue. Listening is critical.

2). Get a second opinion. You may find experts and mediators helpful.

3). Avoid power struggles. Give up control when possible.

The book is available here.
