New online system for students, parents to report abuse in San Diego schools

There's now an independent online system that will allow anyone to report suspected sexual or physical abuse of students in schools.

SAN DIEGO —

There's now an independent online system that will allow anyone to report suspected sexual or physical abuse of students in schools, thanks to the San Diego County District Attorney’s office.

The DA is also launching a “Student Safety in School Systems” task force. Once someone reports possible abuse, the task force and police will investigation the accusation.

“The idea with both the online reporting and the task force is to eliminate inefficiencies and close gaps so our students can feel safe and thrive at school,” said District Attorney Summer Stephan.

The DA said this new online reporting option came about because students often feel they are victims of harassment and parents feel they’re not heard when they voice their concerns.

“Meetings with ‘Black Men and Women United’ were key in sparking the idea of the new task force and online reporting,” said the DA’s office.
