Local students create experiments for space flight

A group of local high school kids spent the week reaching for the stars at the San Diego Air and Space Museum.

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) -  A group of local high school kids spent the week reaching for the stars at the San Diego Air and Space Museum. 

The Go For Launch program is run by Higher Orbits, an organization that aims to get kids interested in the STEM, education and space exploration. 

Students work in groups of five under the supervision of a former astronaut. The learn about space travel and space science them come up with an idea for their own experiment to fly into space. 

One group focused on the impact of zero gravity has on astronauts. 

At the end of the three-day program, the students present their ideas. 

The best experiment ideas from around the country will make it into space over the next few years.
