SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A Southbay teacher received a surprise Friday when she was given a brand new bike as part of an event to promote May's National Bike Month and the Amgen Tour.
Jhoselle Padilla is a language speech pathologist who also happens to be a triathlete who often rides her bike to school.
Padilla already owns a road bike, but the new bike from California Bicycles in La Jolla is a cruiser she will use at the beach.
Padilla was chosen to receive the bike because of her active lifestyle and as a way to get people of all ages excited about cycling, especially the Amgen Tour.
During an assembly at Thurgood Marshall Elementary School in Chula Vista Friday, students were intrigued when hearing about next month's Amgen tour which is set to start in San Diego.
Ed Clancy with Amgen said for the first time in the tour's 11-years, the 800 mile trek through California will kick-off in San Diego.
Just like in the Tour de France, professionals from around the globe will take part of the Amgen Tour.
