SAN DIEGO — Ground and airborne crews working to subdue a roughly 100-acre brush fire in a rugged, mountainous area east of Otay Mesa said the fire was 100% contained as of Wednesday night - two days after it started.

The blaze erupted for unknown reasons about 8:30 p.m. Monday near Marron Valley in the Dulzura area, according to Cal Fire.

The flames posed no structural threats while burning across rough terrain that is difficult to access by ground, said Issac Sanchez, a fire captain with the state agency.

Though aviation hazards posed by heavy cloud cover prevented firefighting aircraft from helping battle the blaze early this morning, the moist, humid conditions also helped to keep the flames at bay, Sanchez said.

The cause of the non-injury fire was under investigation, the spokesman said.
