SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A man accused of beating and robbing a man who was sleeping at a Barrio Logan trolley station pleaded not guilty Wednesday to charges of robbery, assault and battery causing serious bodily injury.

Dion Lewis Heller, 26, was ordered held on $100,000 bail.

The victim was sleeping at the trolley station at 28th Street and East Harbor Drive about 10:30 p.m. Sunday when the defendant allegedly started going through his pockets. When the victim resisted, Heller allegedly beat him in the face and head.

Heller allegedly took some items from the victim and tried to escape on a trolley, police said. The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment of facial wounds.

Deputy District Attorney Kelly Rand told Judge David Szumowski that Heller has prior convictions for assault and robbery.

The judge scheduled a May 22 readiness conference and May 27 preliminary hearing date.
