SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 26-year-old man was behind bars Monday accused of gravely injuring another man who was found lying face-down in the street in North Encanto, police said.

Allen Cunningham was arrested and booked into county jail on suspicion of attempted murder in connection with an attack that apparently occurred in the 6400 block of Eider Street, near Klauber Avenue, Sunday morning, said San Diego police acting homicide Lt. Bryan Pendleton.

The injured man, whose name and age were withheld, was found in the 6400 block of Eider Street about 9:30 a.m. Sunday, Pendleton said. He was unconscious and suffering from a large wound at the back of his head, Pendleton said, adding that he was not expected to survive.

The lieutenant did not say how police connected Cunningham to the attack.
