SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Vehicular manslaughter charges were filed against a motorist accused of striking a woman as she crossed a San Diego street in August, the District Attorney's Office announced Friday.
Lawrence Joseph Farry, 25, is charged in the Aug. 30 death of 56-year-old Joan Milazzo, who was struck as she crossed the 14900 block of Camino Del Sur, near San Dieguito Road, around 9:50 a.m.
The victim, who had been hiking with her husband and sister, was hit by a Nissan Sentra traveling about 87 mph, according to police.
The driver lost control of his car and skidded into Milazzo as she stepped onto a curb, according to the Medical Examiner's Office. Bystanders called 911 and Milazzo was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead about an hour later.
Farry is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday at the downtown courthouse.
