CARLSBAD (CNS) - A 62-year-old man was hit by a hit-and-run driver and discovered on a Carlsbad street in predawn hours Sunday, police said.

The crash occurred sometime before 3:15 a.m. in the 300 block of Carlsbad Village Dr., police spokesperson Josh Bubnis said.

Police and fire crews found George W. Brown, of Carlsbad, lying on his side in the eastbound lanes of Carlsbad Village Drive. Brown was unconscious and appeared to have sustained head injuries, and was taken to Scripps Hospital in La Jolla, Bubnis said.

Officers were investigating the incident as a serious injury hit-and-run traffic collision.

Police asked anyone with information regarding the investigation to call the Carlsbad Police Department at (760) 932-2158.
