SAN YSIDRO (CNS) - Authorities Saturday released the name of a Tijuana man killed in a collision on Interstate 5 just north of the U.S.-Mexico Border.

Jose Juan Ramirez, 46, was driving a late-model Nissan sedan south on Interstate 5 approaching the Camino de la Plaza offramp about 5:10 p.m. Friday when, for unknown reasons, he attempted to cut across two lanes of traffic. The car was struck on the passenger side by a Toyota Tacoma, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office and the California Highway Patrol.

Medics took Ramirez to the UCSD Medical Center where he was pronounced dead by hospital staff minutes after arrival, the Medical Examiner's Office reported.
