SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - On Thursday, the school employee in San Marcos who stole a student's medication and then replaced it with another drug appeared in court.

Matthew Nelson, 32, faces up to three years behind bars if convicted.

The child's parents contacted CBS News 8 when they discovered Nelson was replacing their son's medication with other medication. They were horrified to learn their son actually took the replacement drug.

Nelson is expected to be sentenced in June.

CBS News 8's Kelly Hessedal has the details in the above video report.
