Pedro Rosalino Zurita, 50, pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to second-degree murder for the April 12, 2014, stabbing of Ariflor Gonzalez.
Deputy District Attorney Susan Gust said the defendant felt the 37-year-old victim was moving on from the relationship and had rebuffed his efforts to reconcile.
Surveillance cameras captured Zurita chasing Gonzalez through a parking lot at a business park on Van Allen Way.
Gonzalez was stabbed more than 30 times before the defendant sped off in a car, Gust said. He was arrested an hour later. Police found the victim's body around 8 p.m.
The couple -- who had four children together -- had been married for 22 years but separated in December 2013.
