SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Tens of thousands of revelers are expected to flock to downtown San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter and to Hillcrest this evening to celebrate Mardi Gras -- a final night of indulgence before the 40 days and nights of Lent begin.
The 19th annual Mardi Gras in the Gaslamp is scheduled to from 5 to 11 p.m. and will be held on Fifth Avenue, between Market and L streets. It will feature live music and light shows.
Tickets at the gate are $50.
At 6 p.m., the 12th annual Hillcrest Mardi Gras Street Party will start on University Avenue, between Second and Fourth avenues. The event will run until 11 p.m. and feature live music, dancing in the streets, food and drink.
Tickets at the gate range from $20 to $75.
The Hillcrest event is hosted by the Hillcrest Business Association and the Greater San Diego Business Association Charitable Foundation, while the downtown event is hosted by the Gaslamp Quarter Association. You must be 21 or older to attend either event.
