If California's water woes continue, San Diegans should prepare for mandatory water conservation.

For months now, Mayor Jerry Sanders has urged everyone to conserve water on their own.

On Friday, he unveiled a water allocation plan in the event that regional water agencies order drastic cutbacks.

San Diego residents would be forced to cut outdoor water use by 45 percent and indoor usage by up to 5 percent.

If necessary, the plan would go into effect on July 1.
