CARLSBAD (CBS 8) - Seven juveniles were arrested early Sunday morning and questioned about extensive damage at Carlsbad High School.

Police were called to the school around by a security guard. When they arrived at the school, they found desks and other items thrown throughout campus.

Residents and parents expressed disappointment Sunday after hearing seven juveniles were detained at Carlsbad High School for trespassing, burglary and possibly causing extensive damage.

Petra Gordilla whose son is a student at the school, said the damage, though not confirmed to be caused by this group, was terrible.

News 8 cameras saw a metal gate torn down, a classroom door kicked in, desks, chairs and other items thrown outside the science center.

Preliminary reports indicate the kids also may have taken a joy ride on this golf cart before a security guard intervened.

"He heard someone, and called us based on suspicious activity in the area over the last couple of days."

That activity includes vandalism at Magnolia Elementary and Valley Middle School.

This latest incident happened just after 1 a.m.

Lt. Peter Pascual with Carlsbad police said once officers responded, they treated it as any other trespassing call, not knowing adolescents were inside.

"Yes, they were juveniles, but we responded as though they were career criminals. I credit the officers for using restraint and taking the juveniles into custody."

All of the juveniles involved were questioned and released to their parents.

Two out of the seven were arrested for commercial burglary after stealing from the concession stand.

"They stole candy bars from what I was told."

While those items aren't worth much, the damage caused is extensive, and could wind up costing the parents of these seven kids, if they're responsible.
