SAN DIEGO (CBS 8/CNS) - A pair of small fires off Interstate 805 slowed traffic near Mission Valley Thursday morning.

Sparks from a malfunctioning vehicle may have started the fires on the shoulder of northbound I-805, north of Friars Road, around 5:40 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol and the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.

Both fires were extinguished around 6:00 a.m. However, the fires backed up traffic on northbound I-805 to SR-94.
